Does War Help an Economy?

I’m a Teacher Assistant for a Sociology Class.

Today the professor discussed Deviance which is basically what norms and rules we have in society.

One point the professor used to point out the Structural functionalism theory was that deviance can create jobs. The way that is said assumes that jobs created are a good thing. But is it? Creating jobs by imprisoning people is very much a net negative, bad thing.

It reminded me a talk I once had with Pearl J. Hahn who worked for the Hawai`i Grassroot Institute. She clearly articulated that wars don’t get a country out of a depression (Some have claimed WW2 got us out of the Great Depression) but as Pearl once articulated, you spend money on bombs, which them blow people up and kill them and then you have to build more bombs. Your money is wasted and lives are lost. It clearly is a net negative for your economy and clearly for the world.
